Each time I find myself craving a little taste of Lyon when in Miami, I make my way over to Chef Christian Ville’s Le Bouchon Du Grove. This small restaurant is located in the heart of Coconut Grove, a few steps away from the Coco Walk Mall on Main Highway.
Here are a few of my favorite dishes:
Gratinee Lyonnaise – Onion Soup Topped with Swiss Cheese
Pan Seared Filet of Beef with Green Peppercorn Sauce and Green Beans:
Gratin Dauphinois – This is usually served as a side with the main entrees
They also have an incredible Steamed Fresh Mussels with White Wine and Shallots served with French Fries that is suitable for two, but unfortunately I didn’t have a picture of this dish.
A short bio on Chef Christian Ville from his website follows below:
For Christian Ville, the cuisine is much more than a trade: it’s a passion. In truth, ask him about his ratatouille or the way he prepares any of the dishes he cooks for ” le Bouchon du Grove”: you will immediately understand that in this famous establishment in Miami, nothing is made without a great care, starting with the choice of the products used to create the dishes presented on the menu.
Located in heart of Coconut Grove, le Bouchon du Grove welcomes its customers to a warm and laid back environment, typical of the restaurants in Lyon. Christian and its partner Jeanne know how to suround themselves with a team of excellent professionals whose greatest concern is the satisfaction of the clientele.
Before coming to settle in Miami in 1998, Christian Ville as been instructed by some of the greatest: Troisgros and Paul Bocuse. “The Chewton Glen” hotel in England and “Les Roches” hotel in France enjoyed his skill as well. He also refined his art as a head chef at “La Popote du ministre” in the Ministry of Defense in Paris and in the very famous Morocan hôtel ” La Mamounia”.
Recent favorites include: A Roasted Jumbo Tomato with Goat Cheese, Prosciutto, and side salad; and Chicken Fricassée served with a Morel Mushroom Risotto and a Parmesan Biscuit.
